ComplyDo receives EU co-funded Pro FIT grant for self-optimising compliance AI
Our project "Self-optimising AI for compliance automation" is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by the State of Berlin under the Pro FIT programme.
ComplyDo has been awarded Pro FIT project funding by the State of Berlin, co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The funding supports a 16-month research and development project at our Berlin site: an agentic compliance intelligence module that turns regulatory texts and internal company documents into structured data and matches them automatically.
Self-optimising AI for compliance automation
Companies in regulated industries spend weeks interpreting each new regulation and mapping it to their own policies, controls and evidence. Most of this work still happens manually, in spreadsheets, SharePoint folders and consulting projects.
The project builds a compliance intelligence module for the ComplyDo platform that models this work as an agentic workflow in three core areas: transforming laws, standards and regulatory texts such as DORA, NIS2 and the CSRD into structured requirement objects; extracting and formalising internal compliance artefacts from heterogeneous documents such as policies, audit reports, tables, org charts and screenshots; and semantically matching requirements against artefacts to identify gaps, conflicts and uncertainties.
From weeks of manual gap analysis to traceable, prioritised results in minutes.
Reinforcement learning optimises how these multi-step workflows are orchestrated, so the system keeps improving while every assessment stays traceable and audit-ready.
What the project sets out to achieve
Develop specialised AI models for clearly defined compliance tasks: classifying norm types, extracting conditions and exceptions, resolving cross-references and linking evidence to requirements.
Combine these models in an agentic architecture that selects the right processing pipeline for each document type and adapts to different industries, organisational structures and levels of compliance maturity.
Protect customer data by design: customer data is anonymised, training relies on structurally similar, synthetically generated examples rather than confidential original content, and processing takes place in European cloud environments.
What the project will deliver
A market-ready compliance intelligence module that brings automated requirement extraction, mapping and AI-based gap analysis together in one audit-proof workflow, built for organisations facing complex, fast-changing regulation in sectors such as financial services, critical infrastructure, automotive, pharma and energy.
Validated performance: the pipelines are benchmarked against human-audited reference datasets during the project, with legal and compliance experts reviewing annotations and results.
Lasting expertise in Berlin: agentic AI, legal and compliance AI, multimodal document analysis and auditable AI workflows, built up in our Berlin team.
